Make Give Live group
Every second Friday afternoon at Hub Matakana 2.30pm - 4.30ish
Come and join our Make Give Live knitting/making group, hosted right here at Hub Matakana every second Friday afternoon by a couple of wonderful members of this community Wendy Douglas and Tracy Manu. Make Give Live runs community-based knitting groups all around New Zealand, and we'd love for you to be part of ours.
There's no cost to join at all — we simply want you to come along, knit, crochet or make, (sometimes your own projects and sometimes treasures to gift to Charity) and enjoy being part of our family of makers.
We provide all the materials for projects to donate, and if you don't have needles or a crochet hook, we can help you there too. The beanies we make to gift to people living in hardship in NZ can be made to any pattern at all, so they're a lovely chance to experiment and have fun. You’ll be invited to respond to the need in your own community to help spread warmth and care to where it’s needed most.
Our groups are all about community connection, so we keep them small — usually around ten people — so everyone can enjoy each other's company and really get to know one another. Being part of a Make Give Live group is a bit like having a second family. While we make we also nurture our own mental health and wellbeing. Looking after yourself matters, and knitting is proven to bring a wealth of therapeutic benefits: reducing stress, building confidence, and offering meaningful connection and purpose, especially as part of a community.
Whether you're an experienced maker or have never picked up a pair of needles, you're warmly welcome. Just bring yourself.
