Make Give Live Knitting Group
Every second Friday afternoon at Hub Matakana
Come and join our Make Give Live knitting group, hosted right here at Hub Matakana every second Friday afternoon. Make Give Live runs community-based knitting groups all around New Zealand, and we'd love for you to be part of ours.
There's no cost to join at all — we simply want you to come along, knit or crochet, and enjoy being part of our family of makers.
As a social enterprise, we knit hats that we sell. Some are part of a collection we've designed, knitted in specific yarns to specific patterns and sold online and through selected stores. For every one of these we sell, we donate another hat to someone in need in New Zealand — and these can be made to any pattern at all, so they're a lovely chance to experiment and have fun. We provide all the materials for both kinds of hats, and if you don't have needles or a crochet hook, we can help you there too.
Our groups are all about community, so we keep them small — no more than ten people — so everyone can enjoy each other's company and really get to know one another. Being part of a Make Give Live group is a bit like having a second family. While we knit we also nurture our own mental health and wellbeing. Looking after yourself matters, and knitting is proven to bring a wealth of therapeutic benefits: reducing stress, building confidence, and offering meaningful connection and purpose, especially as part of a community.
Whether you're an experienced maker or have never picked up a pair of needles, you're warmly welcome. Just bring yourself.
